Fast Drop Leads - Fish / Torpedo-shaped plain lead pirks

Just as their name suggests, these pirks get down there very quickly. They are extremely popular and effective in the North East of England, taking good catches of both cod and ling. Yes, you can add split rings and a treble hook as with most pirks, but they are normally set-up a little differently.
Try hanging a couple of size 6/0 or 8/0 O'Shaugnessy hooks off the bottom loop, on something like 50lb Cordolene, so that they hang below the lead by 2 - 3 inches. Some people prefer to use four hooks, but we find you are just as successful with two hooks and less likely to get snagged. Some also like to hang another hook from the top loop but this can tangle in your main line or trace.
Often referred to as "Whitby Rippers", fished along with a string of Hokeyes or other lures, they can be Oh-so effective!
